Where do we leave from, and are transfers included?

Are children and families welcome?

Very. The sheltered water, the canoeing and the beach stops suit families well, and the boat has shaded seating for younger guests. Life jackets come in every size. The 18-adult limit is for adults only — children share their parents’ seats.

Do I need to be a confident swimmer?

No. Phang Nga is a caves-and-canoes day more than a snorkelling one, so most of the time you’re on the boat or in a canoe. Where there’s a chance to swim, it’s calm and optional, with floats and vests on hand.

Two days inland, away from the sea entirely. We drive north into Phang Nga province for an ethical, no-riding elephant sanctuary and a Thai lunch, then an afternoon of river rafting and jungle coffee before a night at a resort on the edge of Khao Sok National Park.

Day two starts early for the reason everyone comes: a boat across Cheow Lan Lake at first light, emerald water beneath 300-metre limestone cliffs, before the tour boats arrive. Lunch with a view, time to swim, then the drive home. It's an overnight land trip — a van, not a boat day — so pack an overnight bag.

This was a wonderful tour. While it was an early rise and a longer commute from our hotel, the sunrise location was well worth it. Joe, our tour guide, took exceptional pictures throughout the day. The boat was clean, staff was helpful and friendly but what made it truly an exceptional experience was the small size of the group. The tour group was limited to small group size and the locations were timed to avoid larger crowds. We saw boats out there with 50 people on them. We had 9 people. The food on the boat was delicious. The transportation to and from was safe. I highly recommend!
